Dubai has the world's fastest mobile internet. Why is your website still slow?

Dubai junction with light trails at night

A Dubai website is fast enough for Google when, for 75% of visits, the main content loads within 2.5 seconds (LCP), the page responds to taps within 200 ms (INP) and the layout shifts less than 0.1 (CLS). The UAE ranked first in the world for mobile speed from July 2024 to June 2025 at 546 Mbps in June 2025, so slow sites here are slow because of distant servers, heavy images and too many scripts. Google says Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems, but relevance still comes first.

The network is not your problem

The UAE held first place in the world for mobile internet speed from July 2024 to June 2025, with 546.14 Mbps in June 2025 according to Ookla data reported by Gulf News. A visitor in Business Bay on 5G can download a heavy page in a fraction of a second.

And yet plenty of Dubai sites take four or five seconds to show anything. When we crawled Dubai restaurant websites for our 2026 study, the median server response was 328 ms and 28.1% of sites took more than 800 ms just to start sending the page. The measurement was taken from Germany, so it includes distance, but it shows the pattern: the time goes on waiting for servers and running scripts, not on bandwidth.

The three numbers Google uses

Google's Core Web Vitals measure what a visitor feels:

MetricWhat it measuresGoodCommon cause of failing in Dubai sites
LCP, Largest Contentful PaintWhen the main image or heading appears≤ 2.5 sFull-screen hero video or a 4 MB photo; slow server
INP, Interaction to Next PaintHow fast the page reacts to a tap≤ 200 msChat widgets, pixels, sliders, heavy page builders
CLS, Cumulative Layout ShiftHow much the page jumps while loading≤ 0.1Images without size, cookie banners and pop-ups pushing content

Each is judged at the 75th percentile of real visits, separately for mobile and desktop. INP replaced First Input Delay as a Core Web Vital in 2024.

How much speed matters for rankings

Google's page experience documentation says two things that pull in different directions: Core Web Vitals "are used by our ranking systems", and Google "always seeks to show the most relevant content, even if the page experience is sub-par".

Read together: speed is a tie-breaker between pages that answer the query equally well, and a reason visitors leave before your WhatsApp button loads. It won't rescue a page with nothing to say. Google's Core Web Vitals page still "highly recommends" reaching good scores.

Measure it properly

  1. Open PageSpeed Insights and test your home page and your main service or menu page on mobile.
  2. Look at the top block first: "Discover what your real users are experiencing". That is field data from Chrome users and the data Google uses. Small sites may not have enough traffic for it.
  3. The score out of 100 below it is a lab simulation. Use its "Diagnostics" list to find causes.
  4. In Google Search Console, the Core Web Vitals report groups your pages by problem, so you fix a template once instead of page by page.

Server location in the Gulf

Every request a page makes, for HTML, fonts, images and scripts, travels to the server and back. A cheap shared plan in the US adds that distance dozens of times per page. AWS has run a Middle East (UAE) region since 2022, other clouds have Gulf regions, and the large CDNs have points of presence in Dubai. For a site whose customers are in the UAE, hosting or caching in the region is the cheapest LCP gain after images.

What nobody tells you

The agency's fast laptop is not your customer. Designers review sites on office Wi-Fi and new MacBooks. Test on a three-year-old Android phone, logged out, with the cookie banner showing.

Marketing tools are the slowest part of many sites. Each pixel, heatmap, chat bubble and review widget is someone else's code running on your page. Keep the ones you actually read reports from.

Arabic and Cyrillic fonts are heavy. A multilingual site that loads three full font families on every page pays for it in LCP. Load only the scripts each language page needs. For language setup, see our guide to Arabic language rules for UAE websites.

Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: in my view, the hero video is the single most expensive design decision on Dubai business websites. It looks great in the presentation and costs you the visitors who leave before it plays. Put the video one scroll lower, where people who want it will find it. What a properly built site costs is in our website prices guide.

Questions people ask

What is a good page speed for a Dubai website?

Use Google's Core Web Vitals, not a single score: LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP of 200 ms or less and CLS of 0.1 or less, for at least 75% of visits. The PageSpeed Insights lab score out of 100 is a diagnostic, not what Google ranks on.

Does website speed affect Google rankings?

Somewhat. Google says Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems, but that it always seeks to show the most relevant content, even if the page experience is sub-par. A fast page with thin content won't outrank a slower page that answers the question.

Should my website be hosted in the UAE?

If most visitors are in the Gulf, a server or CDN point in the region shortens every round trip. AWS has had a UAE region since 2022, and global CDNs have points in Dubai. A cheap shared host in the US or Europe adds distance to every request a page makes.

Why does PageSpeed show a low score when my site feels fast?

The lab test simulates a mid-range phone on a slower connection. It's useful for finding problems. What Google uses for ranking is field data from real Chrome users, shown at the top of PageSpeed Insights as Core Web Vitals when your site has enough traffic.

What slows down Dubai websites most often?

In our experience: full-screen hero videos and uncompressed photos, a stack of tracking and chat scripts, page builders that load everything on every page, and hosting far from the Gulf. That is an observation from sites we audit, not a measured study.
