What we did
We took 582 Dubai venue listings from Google Maps: restaurants, cafés, bars, lounges, shisha lounges and beach clubs found by searches such as "restaurant in Dubai Marina" or "beach club in Dubai". Each listing had a website link. After removing duplicates (a hotel or a chain often lists several venues on one URL) we had 537 unique websites.
On 13 October 2026 we opened each homepage once, plus at most one menu page, the way a guest's browser would. We recorded whether the site loads, how fast the server answers, and what the guest finds: menu, booking, WhatsApp, languages, social links, delivery apps, Google markup and analytics. The full method and its limits are at the end.
| Step | Websites |
|---|---|
| Google Maps listings with a website | 582 |
| Unique websites | 537 |
| Did not load (dead link, 404, server error, timeout) | 55 |
| Blocked automated visits (not counted either way) | 52 |
| Loaded | 430 |
| Analysed in full (content readable without JavaScript) | 409 |
Percentages below use 409 as the base unless we say otherwise.

Headline numbers
| What we checked | Sites | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Valid HTTPS | 395 | 96.6% |
| Mobile viewport tag | 408 | 99.8% |
| Instagram link | 359 | 87.8% |
| Meta description | 316 | 77.3% |
| Google Analytics or Tag Manager | 271 | 66.3% |
| "Book a table" or similar wording | 271 | 66.3% |
| Online booking tool (widget or form) | 154 | 37.7% |
| WhatsApp click-to-chat | 139 | 34.0% |
| Menu readable as a web page | 130 | 31.8% |
| Cookie banner | 120 | 29.3% |
| TikTok link | 97 | 23.7% |
| Restaurant schema markup | 90 | 22.0% |
| Arabic version | 82 | 20.0% |
| Meta (Facebook) pixel | 80 | 19.6% |
| Russian version | 50 | 12.2% |
| Links to delivery apps | 33 | 8.1% |
The technical floor is high: HTTPS, a mobile layout and a page title are close to universal. The gaps open where a guest wants to act: see the menu, book, message.
Ten findings
1. One venue website in ten is a dead end
55 of 537 website links (10.2%) on Google Maps listings returned no page. 22 domains no longer resolve at all, 18 return "404 not found", 3 return a server error and 12 time out or fail the SSL handshake. A guest who taps "Website" on these listings lands on an error.
2. The PDF menu still wins
| How the menu is published | Sites | Share |
|---|---|---|
| PDF only | 147 | 35.9% |
| HTML menu page | 101 | 24.7% |
| Menu platform or QR-menu app | 29 | 7.1% |
| A "menu" link, but no menu found behind it | 56 | 13.7% |
| No menu link on the homepage | 76 | 18.6% |
A PDF opens slowly on a phone, needs zooming and is hard for Google and AI assistants to read. Only 33.7% of sites show at least five dish prices in AED on the homepage or menu page. Among menu platforms, FineDine (8 sites) and mydigimenu (4) appear most often. We compare the formats in our digital menu page.
3. Two in three say "book", fewer than two in five let you
66.3% of sites use wording such as "book a table" or "reservations". Only 37.7% have a booking widget or form we could detect on the homepage. 76 sites (18.6%) say "book" and offer neither a booking tool nor WhatsApp, so the guest falls back to calling.
4. SevenRooms dominates booking
| Booking system | Sites |
|---|---|
| SevenRooms | 100 |
| Eat App | 37 |
| OpenTable | 18 |
| Own form | 21 |
| Zenchef, Resy, ResDiary, Quandoo | 5 |
Base: 154 sites with a booking tool; some use two. SevenRooms appears on 65% of them.
5. WhatsApp is missing on two thirds of sites
Dubai runs on WhatsApp, yet only 34.0% of venue sites have a click-to-chat button. 226 sites (55.3%) link to Instagram but offer no WhatsApp.
6. One site in five speaks Arabic
20.0% have an Arabic version, 12.2% a Russian one and 9.3% (38 sites) all three of English, Arabic and Russian. The rest are English only. Our Arabic language requirements guide explains what UAE consumer law expects.
7. Most sites are invisible as restaurants to search engines
75.3% of sites carry some schema.org markup, usually added by a plugin. Only 22.0% mark the venue as a Restaurant, BarOrPub or similar type with an address and hours, the markup Google documents for local businesses. 22.7% have no meta description, so Google writes the snippet itself.
8. WordPress runs half the sites and is the slowest
| Platform | Reachable sites | Median server response | Avg basics score (of 12) |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | 209 | 611 ms | 7.4 |
| Custom / other | 77 | 411 ms | 7.7 |
| Wix | 45 | 135 ms | 6.3 |
| Hostinger builder | 19 | 291 ms | 7.7 |
| Next.js | 17 | 341 ms | 8.5 |
| Squarespace | 14 | 107 ms | 7.0 |
| Webflow | 10 | 78 ms | 8.1 |
92 of 209 WordPress sites (44%) took longer than 800 ms to send the first byte, the point web.dev treats as "needs improvement". Only 4 of 45 Wix sites did. Wix has other problems: a median homepage HTML of 950 KB, no Arabic version on any of the 44 Wix sites we analysed, and WhatsApp on 11%.
9. Almost a third of "websites" are a page on someone else's site
28.6% of reachable links point to a page inside a hotel, mall or restaurant group website, not to a venue's own domain. These pages score slightly higher (7.6 against 7.3) because hotel groups invest in markup and Arabic, but 42.6% of them still publish the menu as a PDF.
10. Footers give away neglected sites
240 sites print a copyright year. 141 show 2026. 58 (24%) still show 2024 or earlier, and 24 show 2022 or earlier.
Also worth noting
- Tracking: 66.3% run Google Analytics or Tag Manager, but only 19.6% have a Meta pixel and 3.2% a TikTok pixel, so most venues that advertise on Instagram cannot measure bookings from those ads. 33.0% have no analytics at all.
- Delivery: only 8.1% link to a delivery app. Deliveroo (24) leads Talabat (13), Noon (9) and Careem (8).
- Speed: the median server response was 328 ms from our crawler. 28.1% of sites took over 800 ms, 9.3% over 1.8 s.

By area
| Area | Sites | Avg score | Online booking | PDF-only menu | Arabic | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown | 80 | 7.7 | 40.0% | 45.0% | 26.2% | 30.0% |
| Business Bay | 36 | 7.6 | 38.9% | 33.3% | 47.2% | 30.6% |
| Jumeirah | 42 | 7.5 | 40.5% | 31.0% | 26.2% | 9.5% |
| Dubai Marina | 59 | 7.4 | 32.2% | 32.2% | 44.1% | 10.2% |
| Palm Jumeirah | 38 | 7.2 | 42.1% | 23.7% | 47.4% | 18.4% |
| Deira & Bur Dubai | 13 | 7.2 | 46.2% | 53.8% | 15.4% | 30.8% |
| JLT | 34 | 7.2 | 23.5% | 32.4% | 35.3% | 5.9% |
| JBR | 44 | 7.1 | 45.5% | 29.5% | 29.5% | 29.5% |
| DIFC | 15 | 6.9 | 66.7% | 26.7% | 66.7% | 20.0% |
| Sheikh Zayed Rd & Trade Centre | 16 | 6.7 | 12.5% | 37.5% | 31.2% | 18.8% |
Area barely moves the average: every area lands between 6.7 and 7.7 out of 12. The differences sit in single features. DIFC venues book online most often (66.7%) and also publish PDF-only menus most often (66.7%). JLT has the most web-page menus (55.9%) and the least Arabic (5.9%). Areas with fewer than 12 analysed sites are left out; small areas swing on a few sites, so read them as indications.
The best venue websites in Dubai
These ten venue sites scored highest on our 12 checks among venues with their own domain. Ties are broken by server speed.

| 1 | Club One Dubai | Business Bay | Custom | 12 |
| 2 | Maison De Curry | Downtown | WordPress | 11 |
| 3 | Bisou | Downtown | Next.js | 11 |
| 4 | Alba | Downtown | Next.js | 11 |
| 5 | MYATA Platinum | City Walk | Webflow | 11 |
| 6 | Le Petit Chef | Jumeirah | Custom | 11 |
| 7 | MRJADE Coffee | Downtown | WordPress | 11 |
| 8 | NAZCAA | Downtown | Next.js | 11 |
| 9 | Mama Trattoria (Mama Shelter) | Business Bay | WordPress | 10 |
| 10 | Jun's | Downtown | BentoBox | 10 |
The 12 checks, one point each: valid HTTPS; mobile viewport; server response under 800 ms; homepage HTML under 1 MB; title and meta description; menu as a web page or menu platform; online booking tool; WhatsApp button; Instagram link; Restaurant schema; Arabic version; analytics or pixel. Across all 409 sites the median score was 7. 24 sites scored 10 or more and 41 scored 5 or less. We publish no list of the lowest scores.

What a venue can fix this week
- Tap your own Google Maps "Website" link on a phone. If it fails, fix the link in Google Business Profile first.
- Put the menu on a web page with prices, and keep the PDF as a download.
- Add a WhatsApp button next to "Book a table".
- Write a meta description that names the cuisine and area.
- Add Restaurant markup with address, hours and menu link.
- Add at least an Arabic summary page.
- Install a Meta pixel if you run Instagram ads.
Methodology and limitations
- Date: crawled on 13 October 2026; published October 2026.
- Sample: 582 Google Maps listings returned by the Google Places API for 34 searches across Dubai areas and venue types (restaurant, café, bar, lounge, shisha lounge, beach club), all with a website. 537 unique websites after removing duplicate URLs. The sample favours venues that rank in Google results; it is not a census of Dubai's licensed outlets.
- Crawl: one request to the homepage and at most one menu page per site, concurrency of 8 or fewer, 15-second timeout, a standard browser user agent naming Savage Media, robots.txt respected. Sites that answered 403 or 429 or excluded us in robots.txt (52 in total, 9 of them by robots.txt) count as "blocked automated visits", not as broken.
- Speed: time to first byte and full HTML download, measured server-side from Nuremberg, Germany. The figures include the network distance to each host, so they compare sites with each other; they do not equal what a guest in Dubai experiences. Page weight is the HTML document only, without images and scripts.
- Core Web Vitals: we planned a sample of 100 sites through Google's PageSpeed Insights API. The API without a key returned "quota exceeded", so this study has no Core Web Vitals data.
- Detection: features come from the HTML the server sends: link targets, script sources, form fields, JSON-LD and text. 21 loaded sites render content only with JavaScript; we left them out of feature percentages. A feature added later by JavaScript, or a booking button that only opens a pop-up, can be missed, so booking and menu shares are a floor. Area comes from the Google address, then the search query.
- Venues: we name venues only in the positive top 10. Everything else is reported in aggregate.
