Social media in the UAE 2026: every platform's audience in one table, and how not to misread it

Group of people looking at their phones

DataReportal's Digital 2026 report counts 12.5 million social media user identities in the UAE, 110% of a population of 11.4 million, because ad tools count accounts and visitors, not unique people. By ad reach in late 2025 TikTok leads with 12.5 million adults, followed by LinkedIn (10.0 million registered members), Facebook (9.70 million), YouTube (8.37 million), Instagram (8.05 million), Snapchat (5.13 million) and X (2.85 million).

How not to misread these numbers

  • Ad reach is not users. Meta's own note, quoted by DataReportal, says estimated audience size "is not a proxy for monthly or daily active users". Visitors in the country, duplicate accounts and business pages all count.
  • LinkedIn is a different unit. It reports registered members, not active users, so 10.0M cannot be compared with Instagram's 8.05M.
  • TikTok above 100% of adults is a sign of the same inflation, not of every adult using TikTok twice.
  • Short-term dips are often corrections. Facebook and Instagram both lost about 100,000 reach between July and October 2025; DataReportal attributes such dips to platforms removing fake or duplicate accounts as often as to real behaviour.
  • Male skew is real and matters for targeting. Every platform's adult ad audience in the UAE is 61–73% male, close to the population split. If you sell to women, your reachable audience is roughly a third of these totals.

What the report does not cover

WhatsApp and Telegram have no ad tools, so DataReportal publishes no UAE figure for them. Be careful with blog numbers: one agency post cites "around 5.66 million active WhatsApp users" in the UAE, which is almost exactly DataReportal's figure for Messenger ad reach (5.65M). The more useful WhatsApp data point is behavioural: in a YouGov poll of 1,000 UAE residents for Zbooni, 65% had used WhatsApp to contact a business about products or services in the past year, ahead of call centres (55%) and email (48%).

Where sources disagree

Agency reports put UAE social media penetration at "over 98%" or "99%" and quote user totals that do not match DataReportal. Most cite no method. Regional creator-economy reports, such as the MENA report by Influencer Strategists, say plainly that most country-level data in the region is missing. For planning, use DataReportal for audience size and your own ad tool's estimate for the specific emirate, age and language you target.

Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: "Platform totals are for the board deck. For a Dubai business the useful number is the audience estimate in your own ads manager for your district, your language and your customer's age. Check it before you pick a platform."

Questions people ask

What is the most used social media platform in the UAE?

By ad reach in late 2025, TikTok: 12.5 million users aged 18+, per DataReportal. That figure exceeds the adult population, so treat it as a ceiling, not a headcount. WhatsApp is likely bigger still, but no ad-tool figure for it is published.

How many Instagram users are there in the UAE?

8.05 million by Meta's ad reach in late 2025, equal to 70.5% of the population and up 16.7% in a year, according to DataReportal.

Why are UAE social media numbers above 100%?

Ad tools count accounts, not people. Duplicate accounts, business pages and visitors in the country at the time all inflate the count, and the UAE has a large visitor flow. DataReportal republishes the figures as is and flags the anomaly.

Is Telegram popular in the UAE?

No reliable public figure exists. Telegram has no ad-reach data in DataReportal's UAE report. Russian-speaking communities in Dubai use it actively, but any number you see for the UAE is an estimate.

Should a Dubai business be on LinkedIn?

If it sells to companies, yes. LinkedIn reports 10.0 million UAE members, but that counts registered accounts, not monthly users, so it is not comparable with the other platforms' figures.
