Personal brand for an entrepreneur moving to Dubai: a 90-day plan, the platforms by numbers, and what you can post without a permit

Presenter in a spotlight for a brand explainer

A founder arriving in Dubai can post about their own company without the NMA Advertiser Permit, because the rules exempt individuals promoting their own business or a company they own through a personal account; promoting partners, clients' products or anyone else's offer needs the permit. The audience is there: LinkedIn reports 10.0 million UAE members and Instagram 8.05 million users, so a 90-day plan of one platform, one topic and one shoot a month is enough to be findable when people check you.

Why a founder's name works harder in Dubai

Newcomers have no local track record. Clients, landlords, banks and partners will search your name before they answer, and UAE buyers research: a Kearney study found 8 in 10 UAE residents check at least three sources before a new purchase, and rated customer reviews (45%), family (40%) and friends (38%) as the most trusted sources. A personal page that shows your work, your face and your clients' words is the closest thing to a recommendation for someone who does not know you yet.

What you can post without a permit

The line is promotion of a third party. A founder who starts tagging partners "as a favour" crosses it, and Cabinet Resolution 42/2025 sets a written warning the first time, then AED 20,000, then AED 50,000 for social media advertising without a permit. If you plan to promote others regularly, the setup is in our guide to becoming a creator in Dubai legally.

Pick one platform by audience, not habit

DataReportal's Digital 2026 UAE report gives these late-2025 numbers. They are ad-reach and member counts, not unique people, so read them as relative sizes:

PlatformUAE audienceFounder use
TikTok12.5M users 18+ (ad reach)Reach with strangers; needs frequent video
LinkedIn10.0M members (registered)B2B, hiring, partners, banks
Facebook9.70MGroups and community pages

One platform done for 90 days beats four done for two weeks. The full breakdown, with caveats, is in our UAE social media statistics guide.

The 90-day plan

WeeksDoOutput
1–2Write one sentence: who you help, with what, in Dubai. Fix your profile photo, bio, link and contact.Profile that answers "who is this?" in 5 seconds
3–4One shoot: portrait, 6–8 short talking-head clips, 10 shots of you working.Content bank for 6 weeks
5–82–3 posts a week from three themes: what you see in the market, how you work, client results (with consent).10–12 posts
9–10Second shoot on location: office, client site, event.Fresh visuals
11–13Repurpose the best 3 posts to a second platform; ask 5 clients for reviews.Proof others can check

Three themes keep you from running out of ideas: the market (what changed in your industry in Dubai this month), the method (how you actually do the work), the proof (a client story, a number, a before/after where the sector allows it).

What nobody tells you

  • People in your photos have rights. Filming or photographing someone without consent can bring a fine of AED 150,000–500,000 under the cybercrime law. Ask staff and clients before you post them, in writing.
  • Locations need permits for commercial shoots. A founder video on a beach or in a mall is a commercial shoot. See our filming locations guide.
  • Claims are checked. Clinics and real estate have sector rules on what you may say in ads; see clinic and real estate guides.
  • Luxury props backfire. A rented supercar says nothing about your service and invites comparison with every influencer in the city. Your office, your hands at work and your clients say more.

Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: "In Dubai people check you before they reply, so the first job of a personal brand is to look real when checked. A good portrait, a clear sentence about what you do and ten posts that show the work are enough to start. Reach comes later."

Questions people ask

Do I need an Advertiser Permit to post about my own company in Dubai?

No, if you promote your own business or a company you own through your personal account. You need it once you promote someone else's product, service or event, paid or unpaid. Whether the exemption also covers a separate brand account is not stated in official sources; ask the NMA.

Which platform should a founder start with in Dubai?

LinkedIn for B2B, Instagram for consumer services, YouTube for anything that needs explaining. DataReportal counts 10.0M LinkedIn members and 8.05M Instagram users in the UAE. Start with one and repurpose to a second.

Can I post about my investment or trading results?

Be careful. Promoting financial products in or from the UAE is reserved for entities licensed by the Capital Market Authority (formerly SCA), DFSA or FSRA, according to Neo Legal. Talking about your own business is fine; recommending investments is a regulated activity.

How often should a founder post?

Consistency beats volume. Two or three posts a week on one platform, built from one shoot a month, is a pace most founders keep for 90 days.

Should I post in English, Arabic or Russian?

In the language of the people who pay you. A founder serving Russian-speaking clients in Dubai can post in Russian and still use English on LinkedIn for partners and banks.
