The dates that matter, October to January
Q4 in Dubai is one long run of occasions. The official 2026 Retail Calendar published by the Dubai Media Office gives most of them:
| Occasion | 2026 dates | What it is for a brand |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Home Festival | 16 October – 1 November | Home, furniture, real estate |
| Dubai Fitness Challenge | 31 October – 29 November | Any brand that can do "30 minutes a day" honestly |
| Festival of Lights (Diwali) | 2–12 November | Gold, fashion, restaurants, Indian community |
| Eid Al Etihad celebrations | 30 November – 3 December | Everyone |
| National Day public holiday | 2–3 December | Long weekend: hospitality, travel, retail |
| Dubai Shopping Festival | Not announced yet (see below) | Retail, restaurants, events |
| New Year's Eve | 31 December | Hospitality, events, any greeting |
The National Day holiday is fixed by law on 2 and 3 December, but the Cabinet can move holidays to the edge of the week. In 2025 it did, and Khaleej Times expects any change for 2026 to be announced closer to the date. Schedule posts for 2 December and keep the long-weekend offer flexible.

The flag rule most brands break
Every December, feeds fill with logos placed on the UAE flag. The government's own Visual Identity Guidelines are clear: do not use the flag for commercial purposes, as a trademark or part of a trademark, or for advertising and publicity. Government flag guidelines also say not to add symbols to the flag and not to use it for decoration or costume. The National Media Council advertising guide lists respect for the conditions on the flag, emblem and national anthem among its advertising standards, with a fine of AED 5,000 for breaking its rules, doubled for a repeat within a year up to AED 20,000.
Here is how we sort National Day creative before it goes to the client:
| Creative | Our verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Brand post in red, green, white and black, no flag | Fine | Colours are not the flag |
| Real flag flying in the background of a team photo, no offer in the post | Usually fine | A greeting, not an advertisement |
| Flag next to a discount, or a "National Day sale" banner with the flag | Avoid | Commercial use of the flag |
| Your logo placed on the flag, or the flag reshaped into your product | Do not publish | Adds symbols and uses it as a mark |
| Flag printed on packaging, napkins, cups | Do not publish | Decoration and disposable use |
| Official Eid Al Etihad logo in your ad | Check the current year's guidelines first | The logo has its own usage rules |
The official National Day identity has its own rules too. The government's guideline for an earlier year's "Spirit of the Union" mark told users not to change its colours, stretch it or create new lockups. Download the current year's guideline before using the logo.
Outdoor signage is regulated separately. Dubai's advertising decree exempts advertisements celebrating national and religious occasions from one of its permit-period rules only if the holder proves they are not for profit. A "National Day offer" banner is for profit.
DSF 2026–27: where sources disagree
The Dubai Shopping Festival is the anchor of December and January, and this year its dates are a mess online. The facts: the 31st edition ran 5 December 2025 to 11 January 2026, and the 30th ran 6 December 2024 to 12 January 2025, as Cover Page Agency summarises. For 2026–27, one listing site shows 4 December to 17 January, a travel blog says 17 December to 1 February, and DubaiPoints reported on 11 October 2026 that the official page still said only "December to January".
Our advice: build the plan on the pattern (first Friday of December to the second weekend of January), and do not print dates until Visit Dubai or the Dubai Media Office publishes them.

The production calendar: work back from 2 December
| By | What should be done |
|---|---|
| 20 October | Q4 ideas agreed: National Day, DSF offer, New Year; budget split |
| 3 November | Creative checked against the flag table above; Arabic captions drafted |
| 10–20 November | One shoot day for the whole season: greeting, offer, New Year set |
| 25 November | Edits approved, ads in review (allow time for platform review) |
| 30 November | National Day greeting scheduled; long-weekend offer ready for either date |
| DSF launch day | DSF offer live |
| 31 December | New Year post scheduled the day before; nobody wants to edit at 23:00 |
One shoot day in November is enough for most small businesses. Change the wardrobe and props between set-ups and you have National Day, a winter offer and a New Year reel from the same location. In our experience December is the hardest month to book crews, venues and models in Dubai, because events take them first.
Content ideas that are not a flag and a logo
- National Day. Ask Emirati customers, partners or colleagues what the day means to them, and let them say it in their own words. Show the place your business grew in. A short history of your neighbourhood. Keep the offer, if any, in a separate post.
- Dubai Fitness Challenge. Film your team doing the 30 minutes. A café can show the post-run breakfast; a clinic can explain warm-ups, within the health advertising rules.
- Diwali. Restaurants and retail with Indian customers: the dishes, the lights, the people behind them.
- DSF. One clear offer, one end date, one booking route. If you run a raffle or a "buy and win", it needs a DET promotion permit.
- New Year. Your year in 30 seconds: real numbers, real faces. Music in that reel needs a licence; see our music guide.
Influencers you pay for any of these need an Advertiser Permit, and the post needs an #ad label at the start.

What nobody tells you
- The morning of 2 December is crowded. In our observation, most brand greetings go out that morning. A greeting on the evening of 1 December or later on the 2nd competes with fewer posts.
- "Spirit of the Union" is an official theme. Use the phrase in a greeting if it fits, but do not build your sale around it.
- Arabic matters more this week than any other. A wrong word in a National Day caption is noticed. Have a native speaker check it.
Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: Brands overthink National Day and underthink January. The greeting just has to be respectful and on time. The money is in the DSF weeks, so put most of the shoot day there.
