Google Search Console for a Dubai business: a 20-minute monthly check, with filters for Arabic and Russian searches

Laptop with a line chart under striped shadows

Once a month, open Search Console's Performance report, filter to the United Arab Emirates, compare the last 28 days with the previous period, and look at four things: non-branded clicks, queries ranking in positions 5–15, pages that lost clicks, and the Page indexing report. Search Console lets you filter queries with RE2 regular expressions, so you can split Arabic-script and Cyrillic searches from English ones with one line each. Know its limits: anonymized queries, those not issued by more than a few dozen users over two to three months, never appear as rows.

Why a small business should open it at all

Search Console is Google's free report on how your site appears in search: which queries showed it, how often people clicked, which pages Google indexed and which it dropped. Google has 93.47% of search in the UAE, so for most Dubai businesses this is the clearest picture of what customers type before they find you. Most owners verify it during the website launch and never come back.

Twenty minutes a month is enough.

Write the four numbers in a sheet each month: UAE clicks, non-branded clicks, pages indexed, pages with errors. Trends matter more than any single month.

Branded vs non-branded

Branded searches, people typing your name, show that your marketing elsewhere works. Non-branded searches, "dentist JLT", "car wash Al Barsha", are new customers finding you through search. Search Console added a branded queries filter in March 2025. If your non-branded clicks don't grow, SEO isn't working yet, whatever the total says.

Ready-made regex filters for Dubai

Search Console lets you filter queries with RE2 regular expressions: Query filter → Custom (regex). Matching is partial and not case-sensitive. These are ours to copy:

  • Arabic-script queries: \p{Arabic}
  • Russian and other Cyrillic queries: \p{Cyrillic}
  • "Near me" and area searches: (near me|nearby|marina|jlt|jumeirah|barsha|downtown|business bay)
  • Price-intent queries: (price|cost|how much|aed|cheap|سعر|цена|стоимость)
  • Questions: ^(how|what|why|when|where|which|can|is|do|does)

Replace the area list with your own neighbourhoods. The price filter tells you which services people want to know the price of; those deserve a page with the price on it. For the language split, see our guide to multilingual sites with hreflang.

Positions 5–15: the pages that almost rank

Sort queries by impressions and look at average positions between 5 and 15. These are searches where Google already considers you relevant but most people don't scroll far enough. Improving the page that ranks for them, a clearer title, the answer higher up, a price table, a FAQ that matches the query, is usually the fastest SEO win available.

Indexing problems worth acting on

The Page indexing report lists pages Google didn't index and why. The reasons that usually matter on small Dubai sites:

  • Crawled, currently not indexed: Google saw the page and decided it wasn't worth indexing. Often thin location pages or translated pages with little content.
  • Duplicate without user-selected canonical: two URLs with the same content, common with language switchers and filters.
  • Not found (404) for pages that still get links from your Google Business Profile or Instagram bio.
  • Blocked by robots.txt for pages you actually want found, often left over from a staging site.

"Excluded by noindex" on thank-you pages and admin areas is normal.

Know the limits

  • Anonymized queries: Google omits queries not issued by more than a few dozen users over two to three months. They count in the chart totals but never appear as rows, and a query filter removes them from the totals. Small local businesses can find a large share of their clicks hidden this way.
  • Top rows only: Search Console stores top data rows, not all of them.
  • Average position is an average across all the places and devices you appeared, not your rank on someone's phone in Mirdif.

What nobody tells you

Your Google Maps clicks aren't here. Calls, direction requests and website clicks from your Business Profile appear in the profile's own performance report. Search Console covers the website's results. Read both; our local SEO plan covers the profile side.

Add Bing in ten minutes. Bing has 3.96% of UAE search, and Bing Webmaster Tools can import and verify sites straight from Search Console. It also shows you how a second engine sees your site.

Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: the most useful thing Search Console shows a small business is the list of questions customers type before they buy. Turn the top twenty into pages, Shorts and WhatsApp quick replies. If you'd rather hand it over, our SEO prices guide shows what a monthly retainer should include.

Questions people ask

Is Google Search Console free?

Yes. You verify that you own the site, through a DNS record or an HTML file, and Google starts showing data on clicks, impressions, queries and indexing. It doesn't need Google Analytics.

Why don't the query rows add up to the total clicks?

Because Google omits anonymized queries, those not issued by more than a few dozen users over two to three months, and stores only top rows. They're included in the chart totals but never appear in the table, and a query filter removes them from the totals too.

How do I see only searches from the UAE?

In the Performance report add a Country filter for United Arab Emirates. Many Dubai sites get impressions from India, Pakistan or Europe that will never turn into customers; the UAE view is the one that matters for a local business.

How can I see Arabic or Russian searches separately?

Add a Query filter, choose Custom (regex) and paste \p{Arabic} for Arabic-script queries or \p{Cyrillic} for Russian and other Cyrillic queries. Search Console uses RE2 syntax, which supports these Unicode script classes.

Do I need Bing Webmaster Tools too?

It's worth the ten minutes. Bing has about 4% of search in the UAE and its index feeds other Microsoft products. Bing Webmaster Tools can import your sites from Search Console.
