Local SEO in Dubai: a 30-day plan you can run without an agency

Hand placing a red pin on a street map

Local SEO in Dubai comes down to the three factors Google names for local results, relevance, distance and prominence, and you can't buy any of them: Google says there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. In 30 days a business can fix its Google Business Profile, copy the same name, address and phone to Apple Maps, Bing and Yandex, publish one real page per location with LocalBusiness markup, and start a weekly review routine. Rankings for a new business can take up to a month to show.

What local SEO means for a Dubai business

Two different results bring local customers:

  • The map pack and Google Maps, which come from your Google Business Profile.
  • Ordinary search results for "dentist in Al Barsha" or "car detailing Dubai", which come from your website.

Google ranks the first on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance belongs to the searcher: someone in Mirdif sees Mirdif first. Relevance is what your profile and site say you do. Prominence is how well known you are: reviews, links, mentions. Google adds that there's no way to pay for a better local ranking. Everything below works on relevance and prominence.

The 30-day plan

WeekTaskWhy
1Fix the Google Business Profile: licensed name, exact primary category, services, hours, photosCategory and services are the main relevance signals you control
1Write down your one name, one address, one phone and one website URLEvery listing copies from this sheet
2Claim Apple Business Connect, import into Bing Places, add Yandex Business if you sell to Russian speakersSame data in every map app people use
2Publish one page per location on your site, linked from the profileGives Google a page that matches the profile
3Add LocalBusiness structured data to each location pageTells Google the name, address, hours in machine-readable form
3Start the review routine: link or QR code at the moment of service, reply to every reviewProminence grows from steady reviews, not a burst
4Get listed where your customers look: industry directories, delivery apps, partner websitesMentions and links feed prominence
4Set a baseline: calls, direction requests and website clicks in the profile's performance reportYou need numbers to judge month two

The plan assumes a profile that already shows on Maps. If it doesn't, start with our guide on why a business doesn't show on Google Maps.

One name, one address, one phone in every map app

Google's guidelines want the profile name to match the name used on your storefront, website and stationery, and the phone to be under your direct control. Other map apps don't check against Google, so mismatches pile up: an old landline on Bing, a pre-rebrand name on Apple Maps, a delivery-app spelling on Yandex.

Fix it once with the data sheet from week 1:

  • Bing Places is free and since its relaunch on 3 October 2025 imports listings straight from Google Business Profile. Fix Google first, then import.
  • Apple Business Connect is free and controls the place card iPhone users see in Apple Maps, Siri and Wallet. Apple asks for a business document to verify.
  • Yandex Business matters only if Russian speakers are a big part of your clients; Yandex Maps is popular with visitors from Russia and the CIS. Add the company through Yandex Business.

In Dubai, spell the area the way Google Maps does (Jumeirah Lake Towers or JLT, but choose one), and put the building and unit number in the address so a courier or a client finds the door.

Location pages that aren't doorways

Each branch gets one page with things only that branch has: the address and map, the opening hours, the team there, directions from the nearest metro station, photos of the actual premises, and its own reviews. Link the Google profile to that page, not to the home page.

What to avoid: a template page cloned for 40 areas you don't have premises in. Google's spam policies list "multiple domain names or pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page" as doorway abuse. A service business that covers all of Dubai is better served by one strong page listing the areas it covers and real jobs done there.

LocalBusiness markup

Google's local business structured data needs only two fields, name and address. It recommends geo, openingHoursSpecification, telephone, url, priceRange, plus menu and servesCuisine for restaurants. Use the most specific type, such as Dentist or Restaurant, and keep the values identical to the profile. Validate with Google's Rich Results Test before publishing.

Markup doesn't make a page rank by itself. It removes doubt about which business, address and hours the page describes.

Reviews: a routine, not a campaign

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking and that replying shows you value feedback. Practical routine:

  1. Put the review link in the WhatsApp message that confirms the job is done or the bill is paid.
  2. Print a QR code at the till or reception.
  3. Reply to every review within a few days, including the bad ones, in the language of the review.
  4. Never pay, discount or gate: rewards for reviews break Google's policy. Details are in our Google Business Profile guide.

What nobody tells you

Ranking reports from one spot are misleading. Because distance is a ranking factor, your position for "nail salon" changes every few kilometres. A screenshot taken in your shop will always look good. Ask whoever reports to you how and where the position was measured.

Directory blasts are a weak lever in the UAE. Packages selling "200 citations" mostly list you on foreign directories nobody here uses. The listings that matter are the map apps above, your industry's platforms (delivery apps, booking apps, property portals) and real local press.

The website is half the work. The map pack shows a handful of businesses; the rest of page one is ordinary results. A business with a strong profile and a one-page site with no location details leaves those positions to competitors.

Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: for a single location, local SEO is a habit more than a project. A profile that gets two honest reviews a week and fresh photos every month will beat a profile someone "optimised" once and forgot. Pay an agency for the website, the location pages and links; keep the reviews in-house, because only your staff meet the customer.

Measure month two

Write down, before you start: calls, direction requests and website clicks from the profile's performance report, plus enquiries that mention Google. Compare after 30 and 90 days. If you want outside help after that, our guide to SEO prices in Dubai shows what retainers cover and what they cost.

Questions people ask

How long does local SEO take in Dubai?

Profile fixes show within days: Google says edits take up to 3 days to appear. A new business can take up to a month to rank at all. Moving up for competitive searches such as 'dentist dubai marina' depends on reviews and links built over months, so judge results after 90 days, not after a week.

Should I create a page for every Dubai area?

Only for areas where you have a location or a real, different offer. Google's spam policies name pages targeted at specific cities or regions that funnel users to one page as doorway abuse. One strong page per branch beats 40 thin 'plumber in [area]' pages.

Do I need Apple Maps and Bing if everyone uses Google?

They take an hour and cost nothing. iPhone users who ask Siri or open Apple Maps see Apple's data, and Bing feeds Microsoft's products. Bing can import your Google profile directly. The point is one consistent name, address and phone everywhere.

Can I do local SEO myself or do I need an agency?

A single-location business can do the 30-day plan itself in a few hours a week. Agencies earn their fee on multi-location setups, content and links. Our guide to SEO prices in Dubai shows what retainers include.

Does the Arabic name of my business matter?

Use the name on your trade licence. Google's guidelines say the profile name should match the real-world name and must not include extra keywords. If your signboard shows Arabic and English, keep the same spelling on the website, Apple Maps and Bing.
