The real competition is a comparison screen
A tourist looking for a car in Dubai opens an aggregator and sees dozens of companies with near-identical photos and prices. OneClickDrive, one of the marketplaces, says the city has more than 500 car rental companies. On that screen you win on price or you don't win.
So the playbook has two halves. Keep aggregators for first-time customers, and build a direct channel for everyone you can reach before or after the aggregator: Google searchers, Instagram followers, hotel guests, returning customers. Our car rental project in Sri Lanka is the model we work from: followers grew from 800 to 12,000 and 40% of bookings came direct, with no aggregator fee on those (results on our home page).

Where Dubai renters decide
| Customer | Where they look | What wins them |
|---|---|---|
| Tourist, first trip | Aggregators, Google | Price, clear terms, delivery to hotel |
| Tourist, returning | WhatsApp, Instagram of the company they used | A direct offer and someone who remembers them |
| Resident, monthly rental | Google, aggregators, Facebook groups | Monthly price with all costs shown |
| Supercar and luxury | Instagram, TikTok, Google | Real cars on video, fast confirmation, trust on deposit |
| Corporate | Referrals, Google | Invoices, fleet, one contact |
The table is our framework, not a market study. It shows where your own channels can take a booking that would otherwise go through a marketplace.
Google: Ads and Maps
Car rental clicks are cheaper than in property or legal, but not cheap. Big AL's account data puts car rental at about AED 10–28 per click, with automotive top-of-page median bids at AED 4.55–12.81. Our Google Ads cost guide has the full benchmarks.
- Bid on intent, not "car rental Dubai". "Monthly car rental Dubai Marina", "rent Range Rover Dubai", "car rental with delivery to hotel" convert better than the broad term.
- Send ads to WhatsApp or a car page, not the home page. Show the price, deposit and what's included.
- Google Business Profile with every branch, real photos of the fleet and lot, and reviews. Ask every customer the same way at return; Google bans rewards for reviews. See our Google Business Profile guide.

Content: answer the fear, then show the car
Renters in Dubai worry less about the car than about the money around it. A typical deposit is AED 1,500 or more per car, released within 30 days if there are no fines, and Salik tolls and traffic fines arrive days after the trip. Content that explains this honestly builds trust faster than a drone shot:
- "What you'll actually pay" videos: rate, deposit, Salik, insurance, mileage limit, on screen.
- Handover and return clips: the car being checked together, photos taken, deposit released.
- Real cars, real plates blurred, not manufacturer stock photos that aggregators already use.
- Delivery to hotels and the airport, if you offer it.
- Supercar content with the actual price per day; see our supercar shoot guide for locations and costs.
Influencers who post about a free supercar day are advertising and need an NMA Advertiser Permit; check it before you hand over the keys.
Converting in WhatsApp
A renter asks three companies at once. The first one that sends price, availability and a document checklist usually gets the booking. A reply flow that works:
- Car and dates confirmed, total price with deposit and what's included.
- Documents requested in the chat: passport, visa page, licence (international permit if required).
- Delivery address and time.
- Payment link or deposit hold.
- After return: deposit timeline, thank you, review link, and an opt-in for future offers.
This is the flow we automate, so a 1 am enquiry from a tourist who just landed gets an answer in seconds. Marketing messages afterwards need consent; see our WhatsApp rules guide.

What nobody tells you
- Your logo on the car needs RTA approval. Dubai's Executive Council Resolution 2 of 2022 lists a AED 5,000 fine for advertising material on a rental vehicle's body without approval, doubled for a repeat within a year.
- The aggregator owns the review. Reviews left on a marketplace build its trust, not yours. Ask for a Google review too.
- Deposit complaints kill reviews. Most one-star reviews in this niche are about deposits and surprise charges. A clear deposit policy is marketing.
- Unlicensed operators advertise too. Renting out cars without an RTA permit carries a AED 5,000 fine under the same resolution; show your licence so customers can tell you apart.
Vladimir Chernyshev, GM: own the second rental
Opinion. In our Sri Lanka car rental project, prettier car photos weren't what changed the numbers. The system did: real cars on video with honest terms, an Instagram that answered questions, a WhatsApp that booked in minutes, and a reason for every customer to come back direct. Instagram alone would have stayed a gallery. With the system around it, 40% of bookings stopped paying aggregator fees.
Car rental checklist
- RTA permit shown on the site and Google profile.
- Google Ads on intent terms, landing on WhatsApp or a car page.
- Every price shown with deposit, Salik and insurance terms.
- Real fleet content and handover clips each week.
- WhatsApp reply in minutes with documents checklist.
- Review request to every customer at return.
- RTA approval before any branding on cars.
