Where to find freelancers in Dubai: videographers, photographers, editors, designers and developers

For a shoot in Dubai, hire locally: Behance, Instagram and LinkedIn for portfolios, dubizzle's Services section and Dubai Telegram chats such as @freelancersindubai for people already in the city. For editing, design and development, which can be done remotely, Upwork and Fiverr give payment protection at a price: Fiverr adds a 5.5% service fee plus USD 3.50 on orders under USD 200, Upwork up to 7.99% on the Basic plan plus a contract fee. Licensed freelancers in Dubai often hold a GoFreelance package from AED 7,500 a year.

Local or remote: decide this first

A videographer or photographer has to stand in your shop, your villa or the desert. An editor, a designer or a developer doesn't. That one question decides where to look:

  • On-site jobs (video, photo, drone, makeup, models): you need people already in the UAE, with their own gear and, for commercial shoots, the right to work here. Search local portfolios and local communities.
  • Remote jobs (editing, motion design, graphic design, web and app development, copywriting): the global marketplaces work, and their escrow protects you if the work never arrives.

What a USD 1,000 job really costs on each platform

Worked example for a remote video edit priced at USD 1,000, client side only:

RouteCalculationYou pay
Fiverr1,000 + 5.5%USD 1,055
Upwork, Basic plan, worst case1,000 + 7.99% + 14.99 contract feeUSD 1,094.89
Direct, found on Behance or Telegram1,000 + bank transfer costabout USD 1,000

The platform premium buys escrow and a dispute process. The freelancer also pays: on Upwork 0–15% per contract, set before the contract starts. That's why some freelancers suggest moving the job off-platform; if you do, you lose the protection and should replace it with a written contract and staged payment.

The licence question

A freelancer living in Dubai and invoicing you needs a legal basis to work on their own account. The common one for creative and tech people is GoFreelance, a package offered by Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Design District and Dubai Knowledge Park. Its site lists photographer, cameraman, aerial shoot photographer, audio/video editor, developers and designers among the activities, at AED 7,500 a year for the package, with the visa extra (AED 4,600 for one year or AED 5,042 for two) and an establishment card at AED 2,000. Our guide to becoming a content creator in Dubai legally has the full year-one cost.

Two more permits that touch freelancers:

How to vet anyone you find

Use the same checklist whether you found the person on Upwork or in a chat:

  1. Portfolio you can trace. Ask for links to work published by the client, not just a showreel.
  2. Licence. Ask which permit or trade licence they invoice under, and get an invoice in that name.
  3. Scope in writing. Deliverables, formats, number of revisions, delivery date.
  4. Who owns the files. Raw footage, project files and usage rights; see content ownership in UAE contracts.
  5. Staged payment. Deposit, then the rest on delivery. Never 100% upfront to someone you met online.
  6. Permits for the shoot. Who files the location permit; see the Dubai filming permit.

Our longer list is in what to ask an agency or a freelancer before paying, and for video specifically, how to hire a videographer in Dubai.

What nobody tells you

One shoot is rarely one freelancer. A short brand video needs someone to shoot, someone to light and record sound, an editor, sometimes a producer to get the permit. Hiring each one separately means you become the producer.

Gear and insurance are part of the price. A freelancer quoting low may rent kit by the day and add it later, or have no insurance if a light stand falls in a client's venue. Ask what's included.

Dubai prices vary by a factor of ten. For real numbers, read what a photographer costs in Dubai and video editing costs before you negotiate.

Questions people ask

What is the best site to find a freelancer in Dubai?

It depends on the job. For a shoot you need someone in the city: search Behance, Instagram and LinkedIn by 'Dubai', or ask in local Telegram chats. For remote work like editing, design or code, Upwork and Fiverr are easier because they hold the payment until you approve the work.

How much do Upwork and Fiverr charge clients?

Fiverr adds 5.5% to every order, plus USD 3.50 on orders under USD 200. Upwork charges up to 7.99% on the Basic plan plus a one-time contract fee of USD 0.99–14.99. The freelancer pays a separate fee on top, which is why some ask to move off the platform.

Does a freelancer in Dubai need a licence?

To work legally on their own account in Dubai, yes: a freelance permit such as GoFreelance (from AED 7,500 a year) or a trade licence. If the freelancer publishes paid content on their own social accounts, the UAE advertiser permit applies too.

Is it safe to hire a freelancer from a Telegram chat?

It can be, if you check the same things as anywhere else: a portfolio with work you can verify, a licence, a written scope, who owns the files, and staged payment. Never pay the full amount upfront to someone you met in a chat.

Is a freelancer cheaper than an agency in Dubai?

Per day, usually. But a shoot needs several people, a location permit and a producer; when you add them up, the gap shrinks. Our studio quotes complete shoots from AED 950 (special offer).
