A drone quote has three layers
SL Media puts it bluntly: aerial filming in Dubai is not one price but three: permits, crew and equipment, and post-production. Quote one in isolation and you see half the budget. Most price lists online show only the crew.
| Layer | What it covers | Published or reported figure |
|---|---|---|
| Crew and drone | Licensed pilot, camera operator, aircraft, time on site | AED 800–4,000 per hour |
| Permits | Clearance to fly and to film from the air | about AED 1,500 + AED 3,000 (reported) |
| Edit | Stabilisation, grade, cut | AED 300 per minute of edited video at one operator, or project-based |
All figures are asking prices or reported fees from operators' and agencies' own sites, checked on 13 October 2026. No authority publishes drone market prices.

Permits: the layer nobody prices the same way
Who may fly is set by the GCAA and, in Dubai, the DCAA. Our drone filming rules guide covers the operator authorisation, registration and fines. Flying without permission can cost up to AED 50,000.
For the fees, the sources disagree, and we show the disagreement rather than pick one:
- Agencies report flight and filming fees. SL Media and GulfGotTalent both report about AED 1,500 for a DCAA no-objection certificate and AED 3,000 for an aerial filming permit, and GulfGotTalent adds about AED 3,000 more for an advertising permit when footage sells something. Both call these "reported" figures. We could not open an official DCAA fee table to confirm them.
- DFTC (now the Dubai Films and Games Commission) lists aerial filming at AED 0. The Dubai Film and TV Commission table, as reported by Khaleej Times, charges no location fee for aerial filming for up to 7 days, plus the AED 520 processing fee per application.
- Coordination is a service fee. Backyard Studio charges AED 500–1,500 for NOC coordination, with 3–7 business days to approval. GulfGotTalent says 7–14 working days.
Practical rule: ask the operator for the permit line as a separate item with its own number and timeline, and book at least two weeks ahead.

Worked example: one aerial sequence for a brand video
GulfGotTalent publishes a planning total of AED 7,600 for a single Dubai aerial job. Rebuilt with the ranges above:
| Line | Low | High |
|---|---|---|
| Crew and flight time | AED 3,100 (GGT planning figure) | AED 4,000 (one hour cinematic, SL Media band) |
| DCAA NOC (reported) | AED 1,500 | AED 1,500 |
| Aerial filming permit (reported) | AED 3,000 | AED 3,000 |
| Advertising permit, if the footage is an ad (reported) | AED 0 | AED 3,000 |
| Total before edit | AED 7,600 | AED 11,500 |
Compare that with the add-on route: if a ground crew is already filming, aerials cost AED 1,500 to AED 3,000 on top, and the permit work is shared with the ground shoot's paperwork. For a one-off brand film, that is usually the cheaper path.
What nobody tells you
Location decides the price more than the drone. Downtown, Palm Jumeirah and anything near DXB or DWC need location-specific clearances, Backyard notes. A villa in a quiet community and a hotel on the Palm can differ by thousands for the same 10 minutes in the air.
Raw drone footage is rarely usable as is. It needs stabilisation and grading, which SL Media calls the place where aerial budgets quietly inflate. One operator charges AED 300 per minute of edited video.
Indoor flights are different. Arisa states that indoor villa drone filming does not need external permits; FPV walk-throughs inside a property avoid the airspace layer, though the shoot itself may still need a DFTC permit.
Neighbours are in your frame. A drone sees balconies and pools. Filming identifiable people without consent is a criminal offence under the UAE cybercrime law; frame and blur accordingly, as our rules guide explains.
A cheap "drone guy" puts the fine on you. If the operator has no GCAA authorisation, the client who ordered the shoot still ends up with unusable or illegal footage. Ask for the operator's UOA number before you pay a deposit.

When a drone earns its place
| Project | Drone worth it? |
|---|---|
| Villa, waterfront or golf-course property | Yes: plot, approach and views sell it |
| Apartment in a tower | Rarely: one stock establishing shot will do |
| Hotel or resort film | Yes, as part of the main shoot day |
| Restaurant or café reels | No, unless it has a terrace with a view |
| Construction progress | Yes, on a monthly flight package |
| Event | Only outdoors, and only with permits in hand |
