Golden hour in Dubai, month by month
The table gives the 15th of each month in 2026, Dubai time (UTC+4, no daylight saving). "Warm light from" is when the sun drops to 6° above the horizon; "twilight ends" is civil dusk, when the sun is 6° below. That is the working definition of golden hour timeanddate uses. We calculated the times with the NOAA solar formulas for central Dubai and checked them against timeanddate's monthly tables; expect a minute or two of difference by district.
| Month (15th) | Sunrise | Morning warm light until | Warm light from | Sunset | Twilight ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 07:06 | 07:39 | 17:16 | 17:49 | 18:14 |
| February | 06:54 | 07:26 | 17:41 | 18:12 | 18:36 |
| March | 06:29 | 07:00 | 17:57 | 18:28 | 18:50 |
| April | 05:57 | 06:28 | 18:10 | 18:41 | 19:04 |
| May | 05:34 | 06:06 | 18:23 | 18:56 | 19:20 |
| June | 05:28 | 06:01 | 18:37 | 19:10 | 19:36 |
| July | 05:38 | 06:10 | 18:39 | 19:12 | 19:37 |
| August | 05:52 | 06:24 | 18:24 | 18:55 | 19:19 |
| September | 06:04 | 06:35 | 17:54 | 18:24 | 18:47 |
| October | 06:16 | 06:47 | 17:22 | 17:53 | 18:16 |
| November | 06:36 | 07:08 | 16:59 | 17:32 | 17:56 |
| December | 06:57 | 07:30 | 16:57 | 17:31 | 17:57 |
Two things jump out. Sunset moves by only about 1 hour 40 minutes across the year, from 17:31 to 19:12, so a "sunset shoot" is never far from 18:00. And the warm window is short in every month: about 30–35 minutes of direct golden light plus 22–26 minutes of twilight. A photographer used to Northern Europe, where golden hour can stretch for well over an hour, has to work faster here.

Where the sun sets, and why it matters for your location
The sun does not set in the same place all year. In January it goes down at an azimuth of about 245°, west-south-west; in June at about 296°, west-north-west. For a coast that runs roughly south-west to north-east, this shifts the shot:
- Winter (Nov–Feb): the sun sets towards Jebel Ali and the Palm Jebel Ali side. From JBR and the Marina beaches it drops into the sea to the left of the frame when you face the water.
- Summer (May–Aug): it sets further north, almost straight out to sea when you face the water from JBR, so the sun sits behind a subject who stands with their back to the Gulf.
- Downtown: the towers sit between you and the horizon, so the warm light reaches facades and rooftops, not street level. Street-level Downtown shots work better in the blue twilight after sunset, when the building lights come on.
Check the exact line on a sun-path app on the day you scout. An azimuth number on paper decides whether the sun sits behind your model or behind a tower.
Season by season: heat, haze, fog
October to March is the main shoot season. Temperatures are comfortable and the sky is clearer. The catch is fog: most fog in the UAE forms between September and March, peaking in December and January, and Dubai had recorded 12 fog days that season by late February 2026, according to a Khalifa University researcher quoted by The National. It is radiation fog: it forms overnight and burns off as the sun heats the ground. A sunrise call on a fog morning can give you towers poking out of the cloud, or a grey nothing.
April and May are warm and still usable, with sunrise moving before 06:00.
June to September is the hard part. Humidity comes in two blasts, in June and September, and the National Centre of Meteorology puts the average maximum relative humidity in August at 72%. Gulf News reports that summer fog is common in the second half of summer, particularly in August. In practice this means a milky, hazy horizon at sunset and lenses that fog up when you step out of an air-conditioned car.
From 15 June to 15 September MOHRE also bans outdoor work under direct sun between 12:30 and 15:00. The rule protects workers, and paid crew are workers. Summer shoots therefore move to dawn, sunset and indoor locations by default.

What nobody tells you about golden hour in Dubai
- Arrive one hour before "warm light from". Hair, makeup check, light test and the first test frames eat 30 minutes. If the model is still in the lobby when the sun hits 6°, you lose half the window.
- The best minutes for skin are often 10–20 minutes before sunset, when the sun is low but not yet swallowed by the haze band on the horizon. In summer that band can kill the last 10 minutes of direct sun completely.
- Lens fog is a summer constant. Take the camera out of the car 15–20 minutes before you need it, in a closed bag, so it warms up slowly.
- Blue hour is your second shot list. Dubai's lit skyline after sunset is often more striking than the golden part. Plan two looks: one warm, one at twilight.
- Beaches and parks have their own hours and rules. Some public beaches close at night, and night swimming beaches are separate. Check the location before you plan a twilight session there.
The rules do not change with the light
A golden-hour shoot is still a shoot. Personal photos on a phone or camera at a public spot are fine. If the content is for a brand, paid or barter, you need the city filming permit; our filming permit guide covers the process and fees, and the location guide lists who approves beaches, the Marina and Downtown. Drones at sunset are especially tempting and especially restricted: see the drone rules before you put one in the air.

How we plan a sunset shoot
We set call time 60–75 minutes before sunset, shoot the warm look in the 30 minutes before the sun touches the horizon, then switch to the twilight look until civil dusk. In winter we keep a fog backup for sunrise calls; in summer we move everything we can to the evening and to air-conditioned interiors. If you want photos and reels from one session, our lifestyle shoot is built around exactly this window.
